Celebrate Mercy

Writer’s Note: CelebrateMercy is a non-profit organization that aims to instill a deeper understanding of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) by teaching about his life and character. It also aims to respond to misinformation about him in a way that embodies his Prophetic Mercy.

Alhamdulillah, in the beginning of Ramadhan, I managed to catch the first Celebrate Mercy webcast held during this blessed month. Honestly I am at a loss for words as to how amazing the whole programme is, and for three hours I found myself falling in love with the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. all over again.

I have read the seerah of the Prophet. I even know some of the stories by heart.

But I have never, ever, seen them in this light.

From the story of the how the Prophet was treated in Ta’if, for example, Habib Ali Al Jifri highlighted that the Prophet did not complain about those who harmed him. Instead, he complained of his own weaknesses and his own need of help.

As he ran from the shower of stones pelted by the villagers of Ta’if, the Prophet hastened to prevent his blessed blood from falling onto the land. When the archangel Gabriel offered to overturn the entire village, the Prophet declined, and made this du’a instead:

O Allah, To Thee I complain of my weakness, my lack of resources and my lowliness before men.
O most Merciful! Thou art the Lord of the weak and Thou art my Lord. To whom wilt Thou relinquish my fate! To one who will misuse me? Or to an enemy to whom Thou hast given power over me?

If Thou art not angry with me then I care not what happens to me. Thy favor is all that counts for me.

I take refuge in the light of Thy countenance, by which all darkness is illuminated. And the things of this world and next are rightly ordered. I wish to please Thee until Thou art pleased. There is no power and no might save in Thee.

Subhanallah. The Prophet truly did not care about what befalls him, the pain he had to go through physically and emotionally, as long as he has the redha of Allah swt. I think therein lies his exemplary attitude, his character, something we should all strive our best to emulate – to seek nothing but the blessings of Allah swt over all else.

And the above is just one out of the many lessons I learnt, barely seconds from hours of the entire webcast. Due to the overwhelming positive response from all around the world, Celebrate Mercy has added more showtimes all the way till August 11 2013, Alhamdulillah.

Please, take some time off your busy schedules to sit with our scholars from all around the world, to experience a glimpse of the magnificence that is the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.

I promise you, you will not regret it :)
